Do I have to be studying a Computer Science or IT related qualifcation to Join?
You do Not need to be currently studying a Computer Science or Information Technology qualification. The Computer Society is open to all Nelson Mandela University registered students.

Do I need previous knowledge of any programming or IT concepts to Join?
No, we are a society that will provide you with a solid knowledge basis to navigate the IT space effectively.

Do I need a Computer to Join the Computer Society?
A Computer would be beneficial of course but if you do not have access to one this will not inhibit you from utilizing the society to the fullest.

Can I get an IT internship or job placement through the Computer Society?
We offer you various events such as tech showcases where you can network with professionals and companies in the IT industry. We cannot guarantee you an internship or job placement but we do provide industry shadowing and the skillset to set you on the right path of obtaining these career milestones.

Do I need to renew my membership if I was a member last year?
As with any NMU based society, membership is renewed annually. This means you need to rejoin the society every year to confirm you are still with us (if not you are free to leave) and to adhere to any new policies drafted for the current year.
